SaladsSalad plants in general are some of the easiest to grow (as long as you watch out for the slugs). Many cut and come again varieties can give a season long yield whereas "head forming" varieties like some lettuces can be enjoyed as just young leaves or fully developed heads; just like you would buy in the supermarket, only cheaper. Probably the best thing about growing your own salad plants is the ability to nip out and pinch just a few leaves for a sandwhich or to make the kids tea a bit more healthy. How many times have you thrown away a half eaten lettuce, or bag of salad that you just didn"t use in time? This is so much less of a problem if it is growing in the garden; it"s in season, it"s fresh, and you wont waste half as much! |
